Removal Procedure
- Remove the console. Refer to
Console Replacement - Lower
in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
- Remove the rear air duct
front support nuts (1).
- Remove the console rear support nuts (2).
- Remove the supports (4).
- Slide the air duct rearward in order to remove.
- Disconnect the automatic transmission control electrical connector.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the shift lever rod from shift lever. Remove the clip and
slide rod off of lever.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Drill out the five rivets
(2) attaching the control from the body.
- Remove the automatic transmission control (1) from body.
Installation Procedure
- Install the automatic
transmission control (1) to body.
- Install the five rivets (2) attaching control to body.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Install the shift lever rod to shift lever. Slide the rod onto
lever and install clip.
- Install the electrical connector to automatic transmission control.
- Install the rear air duct
by sliding forward.
- Install the console rear support (4).
- Install the rear air duct front support and console rear support
and attaching nuts (1, 2).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten the air duct front support nuts (1) to 8 N·m (71 lb in).
Tighten
Tighten the console rear support and attaching nuts (2) to 4 N·m
(35 lb in).
- Install the console assembly. . Refer to
Console Replacement - Lower
in Instrument Panel,
Gages and Console.
- Adjust the shift lever rod. Refer to
Shift Control Linkage Adjustment
