Removal Procedure

Caution: Allow sufficient time for the engine to cool before removing the ECT sensor. A hot engine may cause an excessive coolant loss or a personal injury.

Important: If necessary, remove the windscreen wiper motor - Refer to Windscreen Wiper motor, Removal and Installation in Body and Accessories.

  1. Partially drain the coolant system.
  2. Notice: Mask off the intake ports. Accidental entry of foreign objects can cause severe engine damage.

  3. Remove the Intake Plenum. Refer to Intake Plenum, Removal and Installation.
  4. Remove the Intake Bridge. Refer to Seal Rings - Intake Bridge/Intake Flange, Removal and Installation.
  5. Disconnect the wiring harness from the ECT sensor.

  6. Object Number: 21361  Size: SH
  7. Remove the ECT sensor (1) from the Coolant Bridge.
  8. Clean any spilled coolant.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Apply a non-hardening sealer to the sensor threads prior to installation in order to prevent coolant leaks. Use P/N 1050805 or the equivalent

    Notice: Replacement components must be the correct part number for the application. Components requiring the use of the thread locking compound, lubricants, corrosion inhibitors, or sealants are identified in the service procedure. Some replacement components may come with these coatings already applied. Do not use these coatings on components unless specified. These coatings can affect the final torque, which may affect the operation of the component. Use the correct torque specification when installing components in order to avoid damage.

  1. Install the ECT sensor (1) into the coolant bridge.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the ECT Sensor to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  3. Connect the wiring harness to the ECT sensor.
  4. Install the Intake Bridge. Refer to Seal Rings - Intake Bridge/Intake Flange, Removal and Installation.
  5. Install the Intake Plenum. Refer to Intake Plenum, Removal and Installation.
  6. If the wiper motor is removed, install the windscreen wiper motor. Refer to Windscreen Wiper Motor, Removal and Installation in Body and Accessories.
  7. Refill the coolant system.
