A1: For Customer Satisfaction Program #02041, use V0902 - Inspect timing belt pulleys and water pump. No replacement necessary.
Q2 : If a customer was reimbursed under the Special Policy #02018, can they be reimbursed again in Customer Satisfaction Program #02041?
A2: No. A customer can be reimbursed only once using either T5570 in Special Policy #02018 or V0905 in Customer Satisfaction Program #02041.
Q3: If repairs are done using the 1997-1998 Tensioner Kit #55352000 and not all parts were used, do I scrap the extra parts?
A3 : Any parts not used in the repair can be put in stock.
Q4: Is a salvage vehicle with a "branded title" eligible for the Customer Satisfaction Program?
A4: Yes. According to the General Motors Service Policies and Procedures Manual section 1.4.14 General Motors Service Polices and Procedures: "Only claims for repairs covered by the Emissions Warranty and/or recalls will be processed. Dealer is to access the GMVIS system in order to qualify warranty coverage."
Q5: If a 1997-1998 Catera has over 100,000 miles, can the Customer Satisfaction Program still be done?
A5: Perform Customer Satisfaction Program #02041 regardless of service years or mileage.
Q6: If a 1997-1998 Catera has under 100,000 miles and has engine damage due to the cam drive system, what should be done.
A6: Repair engine damage resulting from cam drive and/or water pump failure using Special Policy #02018 labor operation T5569. To close out the Customer Satisfaction Program #02041, use V0902 after confirming that the engine cam drive pulleys and water pump are the latest design.
Q7: If a 1997-1998 Catera owner has over 100,000 miles and has engine damage due to the cam drive system what should be done?
A7: Perform Customer Satisfaction Campaign #02041 regardless of service years or mileage. A vehicle that is beyond the 7 years/100,000 miles warranty period or has engine damage repaired after September 30, 2002 will be a customer paid claim.
Q8: Is courtesy transportation extended to Catera owners who are beyond the 4 years/50,000 mile warranty coverage period?
A8: The Dealer and the GM Area Service Manager can determine eligibility on a case by case basis.
Q9: Is courtesy transportation required on every 1997-1998 Catera vehicle within the 4 year/50,000 mile warranty coverage period?
A9: The availability of courtesy transportation to customers whose vehicles are within the warranty coverage period (4 years/50,000 miles) is very important in maintaining customer satisfaction. Dealers are to ensure that these customers understand that shuttle service or some other form of courtesy transportation is available and will be provided at no charge. Normal courtesy transportation guidelines are to be followed as outlined in the General Motors Services Policies and Procedures Manual.
Q10: When will P/N 55352000 - 1997-1998 Tensioner Kit, Drv Belt and P/N 90573616 - 19997-01 Pulley, Tmg Belt Idler be available?
A10: Parts are readily available.
Q11: If a 1997-1998 Catera was re-built using a 1999-01engine block, will the current Customer Satisfaction Program parts work?
A11: The engine in some 1997 and 1998 Cateras may be a service replacement engine that will require a 1999-01 timing belt, P/N 09128500, instead of the 1997-98 timing belt, P/N 90530599, that is included in the Drive Belt Tensioner Kit, P/N 55352000, for Customer Satisfaction Program Bulletin 02041. All other components in the Drive Belt Tensioner Kit, P/N 55352000, are compatible with 1999-01 service engines. Please order parts accordingly.
Q12: Will 1999-2001 Catera Owners be eligible for Customer Satisfaction Program 02041?
A12: The 1999-2001 Catera owners will be eligible for the Revised Customer Satisfaction Program 02041A on November 4, 2002. 1999-2001 Catera owners were mailed a correction letter the week of October 7, which also requested that they call their dealers after November 4, 2002 to arrange a Program service date.
Q13: Is there an easy way to identify the older style 97-98 block engine Vs 99-01 block?
A13: The 97-98 block has the spin on style oil filter (PF47). The 99-01 uses the cartridge style oil filter. The external timing cover dimensions are slightly different too however, the technician would have to be familiar those dimensions.
Q14: Is it required to change the coolant in the service procedure?
A14: Clean pure Dexcool of the proper mix is durability tested to 150,000 miles. So it is not required to change coolant. Of course, if the engine has overheated or the above conditions are not met, remix adding to/or replacing coolant should be done on a case by case basis. Additionally, General Motors recommends the use of coolant recycling equipment.
