Normal Vehicle Use

The maintenance instructions contained in the Maintenance Schedule are based on the assumption that the vehicle will be used as designed:

    • To carry passengers and to carry cargo within the limitation indicated on the Tire Placard located on the edge of the driver's door.
    • On reasonable road surfaces within legal operating limits.
    • On unleaded gasoline.

Schedule I - Short Trip/City Service

Follow this schedule if the vehicle will be driven under any of the following conditions:

    • Most trips are less than 5 to 10 miles (8 to 16 km). This is particularly important when the outside temperatures are below freezing.
    • Most trips include extensive idling and/or low speed operation such as the following conditions:
      • Most trips include door-to-door delivery.
      • Most trips include frequent driving in stop-and-go traffic.
    • Most trips are through dusty areas.
    • Frequent trailer towing.
    • Frequent use of a carrier on top of the vehicle.
    • The vehicle is used for one of the following conditions:
      • The vehicle is used for delivery service.
      • The vehicle is used for police service.
      • The vehicle is used for taxi service.
      • The vehicle is used for commercial application.

If the vehicle is used under any one of the conditions listed above the oil will break down and become contaminated with water and fuel sooner. Follow this schedule to prevent operating the vehicle with contaminated oil.
