  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Program the sun roof actuator. Refer to Programming the Sun Roof Actuator for programming procedures.
  3. Turn the sun roof switch knob to position A. The sun roof should move to the fully open position.
  4. Turn the sun roof switch knob to position C. The sun roof should close approximately 50%.
  5. Turn the sun roof switch knob to position E. The sun roof should move to the fully closed position.
  6. Turn the sun roof switch knob to position G. The sun roof should move to the fully tilted position.

Does the sun roof move to the different positions when the sun roof switch knob is moved to the different positions?

  1. Turn the sun roof switch knob to position A and wait until the sun roof is completely open.
  2. Turn the sun roof switch knob to position E so that the sun roof will move to the fully closed position.
  3. As the sun roof is closing, use something to obstruct the sun roof from fully closing.
  4. When the sun roof actuator detects that there is an obstruction, it is supposed to stop and open to a predetermined position.

Does the sun roof actuator detect the obstruction and does it open to a predetermined position?

  1. With all of the doors closed, operate the sun roof to any desired position.
  2. As the sun roof is moving, open any door.
  3. When any door is opened, terminal  3 of the sun roof actuator is grounded through the side door jamb switch.
  4. When the sun roof actuator senses that a door is open, it should stop moving immediately.

Does the sun roof stop moving when any door is opened?

  1. Locate an open or a high resistance in CKT R700.
  2. Repair the open or the high resistance in CKT R700.
  3. If circuit R700 is OK, replace the sun roof actuator. Refer to Sunroof Actuator Replacement in Roof.

  1. Install the scan tool.
  2. Establish communication with the sun roof actuator.

Does the scan tool communicate with the sun roof actuator?

Are there any current and/or history and/or intermittent DTCs present?

  1. There may be an intermittent problem with the sun roof actuator cables and/or linkages.
  2. The linkages and the cables may not be properly lubricated.
  3. Refer to Lubrication Description for lubricating procedures.

If DTC 50, 51 or 55 is set, the sun roof actuator will become inoperative. Refer to DTC 050, 051, or 055 for diagnosis.
