Inspect the CRUISE fuse for an open.

Is the fuse open?

  1. Test the circuits from the CRUISE fuse for a short to ground.
  2. Replace the fuse after repairing the condition.

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Select CRUISE CONTROL and then SPECIAL FUNCTIONS.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Select STEPPER MOTOR TEST.
  5. Observe the throttle and actuate the stepper motor with the scan tool.

Does the throttle move to the wide open position?

Verify that the cruise control system operates properly.

Does the cruise control system operate properly?

System OK

  1. Select TIP SWITCH I from the scan tool data list.
  2. Press and hold the SET/ACCEL button on the cruise control switch.

Does the scan tool display ACTIVE?

Access DTCs using the scan tool.

Is a DTC 55 present?

  1. Select BRAKE/P-N SWITCH from the data list.
  2. Move the transmission selector to the D position.
  3. Do not press on the brake pedal.

Does the scan tool display INACTIVE?

  1. Disconnect the cruise control switch connector.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Connect a fused jumper wire from terminal B to terminal D.

Does the scan tool display ACTIVE?

Replace the cruise control module.

Is the replacement complete?

Inspect the cruise control cable for the following:

    • a binding condition
    • cable moves freely
    • cable adjustment

Select TIP SWITCH O from the scan tool data list.

Does the scan tool display INACTIVE?

  1. Disconnect the cruise control release switch connector.
  2. Connect a fused jumper wire across terminals 1 and 2.
  3. Make sure the transmission is in the D position and brake pedal not applied.

Does the scan tool display INACTIVE?

Replace the cruise control switch.

Is the replacement complete?

Test for an open circuit in CKT FB300 (BLK/YEL).

  2. Apply the brake pedal.

  1. Disconnect the cruise control switch connector.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Connect a fused jumper wire from terminal B to terminal A.

Does the scan tool display INACTIVE?

Replace the cruise control release switch.

Is the replacement complete?

  1. Test for an open circuit between terminal C of the automatic transmission range switch and cruise control module connector terminal D.
  2. If no circuit problem is found, test the operation of the range switch, repair as necessary.

Verify that the cruise control sets and maintains set speed.

Does the cruise control set and maintain set speed?

  1. Prepare the vehicle for a road test.
  2. Select VEHICLE SPEED.
  3. Road test the vehicle and observe vehicle speed on the scan tool.

Does the scan tool display the vehicle speed?

  1. Apply the brake pedal.
  2. Observe the exterior brake lamps.

Do the brake lamps illuminate?

Test for an open circuit in CKT FA300 (BLK/RED).

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the VSS input circuit between the EBTCM connector terminal 23 and the cruise control module connector terminal K for the following:

    • open circuit
    • short to ground
    • short to voltage
    • If no circuit problems are found, test the VSS output from terminal 23 of the EBTCM, repair as necessary.

Test for an open circuit in CKT FB500 (BLK/YEL) between S206 and cruise control module connector terminal G.
