The DELCO® entertainment system consists of an electronically tuned AM-FM stereo receiver with cassette and six speakers. The speakers are arranged as follows:
On the DELCO® systems, the radio performs all processing and amplification functions, and amplifies the system speakers directly.
The DELCO® radio is located in the center of the I/P and provides all operator interface to the radio and cassette (or CD changer if equipped) functions. The I/P dimmer lamp control controls the incandescent bulbs which provide the backlighting.
The park lamp input controls the LED enunciators dimming. The Vacuum Tube Fluorescent (VTF) display indicates the time of day, the radio frequency, or the CD track information. The I/P cluster supplies the Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal to control the VTF.
The radio internally grounds the speakers in all DELCO® music systems.
The improper installation of add-ons such as tape players, CBs, etc., may damage the system.

The DELCO-BOSE® entertainment system consists of the following components:
• | Electronically tuned AM-FM stereo receiver with cassette and CD (incl. mini-CD capability) |
• | Speaker amplifier (mounted under the rear parcel shelf) |
• | Signal processor (mounted under the rear parcel shelf) |
• | 6.5 in. front side door speakers (mid-range) mounted in the lower front doors |
• | 2 in. front side door tweeters (high frequency) mounted to the upper front doors |
• | 3.5 in. rear side door speakers (high/mid-range) mounted in the lower rear side doors |
• | 6.5 in. rear speakers (low frequency) mounted under the rear parcel shelf |
On DELCO-BOSE® systems, the radio passes the line level output audio signals to the radio signal processor for processing, and then to the radio speaker amplifier for amplification to the speakers. The single amplifier powers all of the speakers.
The radio internally grounds the speakers in all DELCO-BOSE® music systems. Improper installation of add-ons such as tape players, CBs, etc., may damage the system.
The 1x24 dot matrix Vacuum Tube Fluorescent (VTF) display has the capability to show all messages in the default language of English and in French, German, Japanese Katikana and Spanish.
Backlighting for the radio is provided by incandescent lamps behind the buttons and the trimplate (PWR and VOL) inserts. The PWM signal for incandescent backlighting is supplied from the vehicle lighting center and connected directly to the lamps via pins E5 and F5 of the main connector.
When a cassette or CD is not loaded, the halo light surrounding the openings will be lit. When a cassette or CD is loaded, the halo light will extinguish.
RDS is the European standard for providing information inaudibly via an FM subcarrier band. The US has adopted a similar standard called the Radio Broadcast Data System (RBDS). This feature is not available in the AM or weather modes, however the feature is available when the radio is playing a cassette or CD.
RDS features are only available for use on FM stations which broadcast RDS information. RDS information includes the ability to seek for stations with the type of programming desired, traffic announcements, emergency broadcasts and searches for a stronger station (with the same program type) when a station is too weak for listening.
Theftlock mode will activate if a valid VIN is stored in the radio and it does not match the last reported VIN via Class 2 communication. DTC B1780 will set and the DTC will store to radio memory.
If a valid VIN is stored in the radio memory, and a VIN is not reported since battery power for the radio was received, theftlocked mode will activate. As in the previous event, DTC B1780 will set and store to radio memory.
When theftlock is active, and the radio is installed in a different vehicle with the same power mode, the radio will display: Locked - THEFTLOCK Active. If a radio, with theftlock active, is installed in a different vehicle with a different power mode, the radio display will be blank.
DTC B1780 will automatically clear when the radio receives the correct VIN or it may be cleared with the scan tool.
Use the scan tool to clear a previous VIN from radio memory. Once the memory is clear, and the radio is powered up, the radio will automatically capture the vehicle's VIN via the Class 2 communication loop and store it to memory.
If the temperature of the cassette or the CD reaches 60° C while the radio is on, an internal cooling fan will come on to cool the cassette or CD. When the temperature has been reduced to 50° C the fan will shut off.

The Program Type (PTY) Seek and Scan feature identifies a station by the current program being broadcast (such as News, Rock, Country, etc.). The PTY can be selected by pressing either of the PTY buttons within five seconds of pressing the orange RDS Shift/Select button. |
This will allow the user to scroll through the PTY list in alphabetical order. The last PTY viewed becomes the active PTY. The program type (PTY) , used in conjunction with SEEK and SCAN, allows the user to seek or to scan to stations matching the active PTY. |
If PTY is on, but the radio is not tuned to an RDS station, a SEEK or SCAN will cause the radio to stop on an RDS station with a PTY of ANY. |
When a SEEK is performed and both PTY and Traffic Announcement (TA) are on, the radio will stop only on a station that matches the active PTY and is also broadcasting TAs. If no stations are found with the selected PTY and TA, the SEEK will terminate and return to the original station. The display will indicate NONE FOUND for 3 seconds. |
• | (7) PRESETS--Six numbered pushbuttons allow for storage of up to 24 stations in memory (six AM, six FM1, six FM2 and six weather) and 12 PTYs (six FM1 and six FM2). |

If the current tuned station broadcasts a traffic announcement the TP icon will be illuminated. The volume will default to a preset volume of two full blocks of the volume display for traffic announcements. |
If PTY (program type) is on and TA is enabled, the radio will perform a SEEK for a station with a TA and the selected program type (PTY). If no stations are found with the selected program type and broadcasting a TA, the radio will continue to SEEK to a station with a TA. This will result in the PTY being changed to the new station's program type (PTY) whether the user wanted this program type or not. |
If while in the tuner mode and listening to an RDS station with TA on and the TP of the station quits or is out of range, the radio will not automatically search for a new TP. |
ALERT appears on the display when a local or national emergency is broadcast. You will not be able to turn off ALERT announcements. The radio will default to TA volume for alert broadcasts, volume may be increased by turning the PWR/VOL knob. Alert announcements will be audible even if the cassette or CD is in use. If the radio tunes to a related network station for the alert announcement, it will return to the original station when the announcement is over. Cassette or CD operation will continue when the announcement is finished. |
