Child Seat Tether Anchor Initial Installation

This procedure is for Canadian built vehicles only. A child seat may require you to use a top strap in the rear seat position. Use a special dealer installed anchor in order to anchor the child tether. Anchor the child tether to the rear window panel. Use the child seat only at the seating position for which the anchor is installed, in order to assure the correct child seat tether angle.

Use the following procedure when you install an anchor bracket for the first time:

  1. Select a position for the top strap anchor installation from the inside of the rear compartment.
  2. Three positions exists in the rear seat crossmember: left side , center and right side.

  3. Locate the threaded anchor hole in the rear seat crossmember from the inside of the rear compartment, using a center punch by hand, punch a small hole in the rear seat to window trim panel.
  4. Locate the hole. In the rear seat to the rear window panel trim cut an X about 13 mm (½  in).
  5. Insert the child seat tether anchor spacer (3) and the bracket (2) and anchor bolt (1) into the rear seat to the rear window panel trim.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Thread the top strap anchor bolt into the weld nut in the rear seat crossmember.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the top strap anchor bolt (1) to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
