Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
  3. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  4. Remove the compressor hose bolt through the top of the compressor using a long ratchet extension and a swivel socket.
  5. Remove the intake air resonator. Refer to Intake Air Resonator Replacement .
  6. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  8. Remove the compressor hose O-rings.

  9. Object Number: 143405  Size: SH
  10. Remove the compressor hose clamp to air pipe bracket bolt (1).

  12. Remove the compressor hose to oil pan bolt.
  13. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .

  14. Object Number: 143460  Size: SH
  15. Remove the three front compressor mounting bolts.

  17. Remove the two rear compressor mounting bolts (1).
  18. Disconnect the compressor connector.
  19. Lower the vehicle.
  20. Remove the compressor through the top of the engine compartment.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the compressor through the top of the engine compartment.
  2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
  3. Connect the compressor connector.

  5. Install the rear compressor mounting bolts (1).

  6. Object Number: 143460  Size: SH
  7. Install the front compressor mounting bolts.
  8. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten
    Tighten the compressor mounting bolts to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

  9. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .

  11. Install the compressor hose to oil pan bolt.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the compressor hose to oil pan bolt to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  13. Install the compressor hose clamp to air pipe bracket bolt (1).
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the compressor hose clamp to air pipe bolt to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  15. Install the compressor hose O-rings:
  16. • Use new O-rings.
    • Lubricate the new O-rings with mineral oil, 525 viscosity.
  17. Install the compressor hose.
  18. Install the compressor hose bolt.
  19. Lower the vehicle.

  21. From the top of the engine compartment with a long ratchet extension:
  22. Tighten
    Tighten the compressor hose bolt to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).

  23. Install the intake air resonator. Refer to Intake Air Resonator Replacement .
  24. Connect the battery negative cable.
  25. Reprogram all applicable accessories.
  26. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Odor Correction .
  27. Leak test the A/C system.
