Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Siphon the power steering fluid from the reservoir to prevent excessive spillage.

  4. Remove the (1) gear inlet hose connection at the steering gear and at the power steering (2) pump.
  5. Remove the gear inlet hose.

  7. Remove the gear outlet hose (2) connection from the steering gear.
  8. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  9. Remove the heat shield bolts for the Electronic Brake Traction Control Module/Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (EBTCM/BPMV) assembly.
  10. Remove the heat shield from the EBTCM/BPMV assembly.

  12. Remove the hose clamp for the gear outlet hose/power steering fluid cooling pipe connection.
  13. Remove the gear outlet hose from the power steering fluid cooling pipe.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 142014  Size: SH
  1. Install the gear outlet hose to the power steering fluid cooling pipe.
  2. Install the hose clamp to the gear outlet hose/power steering fluid cooling pip connection.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten
    Tighten the hose clamp until snug.

  4. Install the heat shield to the EBTCM/BPMV assembly.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the heat shield bolts for the EBTCM/BPMV assembly to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  6. Lower the vehicle.

  8. Install the gear inlet hose (1) with a new O--ring to the power steering pump.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the gear inlet hose connection at the power steering pump to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  10. Fill the reservoir with DEXRON® III automatic transmission fluid, GM P/N 12346143, or equivalent.
  11. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  12. Reprogram applicable accessories.
  13. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding
