Notice: When filling the master cylinder, use only Delco Supreme 11, GM P/N 12377967 (Canadian P/N 992667), or equivalent DOT 3 brake fluid. Do not use a container which has been used for petroleum based fluids, or a container which is wet with water. Petroleum based fluids will cause swelling and distortion of rubber parts in the hydraulic brake system, and water will mix with brake fluid, lowering the boiling point. Keep all fluid containers capped to prevent contamination.
Important:
• Lubricate the rubber parts with clean brake fluid to ease assembly. • Do not use lubricated shop air on brake parts or damage to the
rubber components may result. • It may be necessary to bleed all or part of the brake hydraulic
system if any hydraulic component is removed or disconnected. • The tightening specifications specified are for dry unlubricated
fasteners. • Perform the service operations on a clean bench. Ensure the bench
is free of all mineral oil materials.
The master cylinder must be kept properly filled to ensure the following conditions:
• | To ensure an adequate reserve. |
• | To prevent air from entering the brake hydraulic system. |
Do not overfill the reservoir as the fluid expands due to heat absorbed from the brakes and from the engine. Clean the brake master cylinder reservoir and the reservoir cover thoroughly before removal to avoid getting dirt into the reservoir.
Add brake fluid GM P/N 12377967 (DOT 3) or equivalent only as required to bring the level up to the FULL mark on the reservoir. The brake fluid level sensor float (integral to the cover) seats (brake indicator lamp does not illuminate) with the fluid filled to the FULL mark on the reservoir. Do not overfill.
