Removal Procedure

Tool Required

J 42072 Rear Brake Backing Plate Bolt Remover

  1. Remove the rear wheel bearing hub from the control arm. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement in Rear Suspension.
  2. Remove the parking brake shoes with the related hardware. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 219684  Size: SH
  4. Use the J 42072 Rear Brake Backing Plate Bolt Remover to remove the rear backing plate bolts (1) from the rear brake backing plate (2).

  5. Object Number: 219690  Size: SH
  6. Remove the parking brake anchor (3) from the rear brake backing plate (2).
  7. Remove the rear brake backing plate (2) from the rear axle control arm (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 219690  Size: SH
  1. Install the rear brake backing plate (2) to the rear axle control arm (1).
  2. Install the parking brake anchor (3) to the rear brake backing plate (2).

  3. Object Number: 219684  Size: SH
  4. Use the J 42072 Rear Brake Backing Plate Bolt Remover to install the rear backing plate bolts (1) to the rear brake backing plate (2).
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten
    Tighten the rear backing plate bolts (1) to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  6. Install the parking brake shoes with the related hardware. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement .
  7. Install the rear wheel bearing hub to the control arm. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement in Rear Suspension.
  8. Important: Ensure the rear wheels still turn on the 4th notch of the parking brake application. Ensure the rear wheel are tight on the 7th notch of the parking brake application. Refer to Parking Brake Lever Adjustment in this section if the system does not operate within this range.

  9. Test the parking brake operation and state of adjustment.
