Was the Cruise Control System Check performed?

  1. Install the scan tool.
  2. Select CLUTCH/P-N SW from the cruise control data list.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  4. Put the transmission selector into DRIVE and then release the brake pedal.

Does the scan tool display the specified value?

  1. Disconnect the connector from the cruise control release switch.
  2. Using a fuse jumper lead, jumper harness terminals 1 and 2.

  1. Check for a poor connection at terminal D of the cruise control module.
  2. Check the release switch for intermittent sticking.
  3. Check the cruise control cable for binding or any interference from other components.

Was a problem found and repaired?

Replace the cruise control release switch.

Is the replacement complete?

  1. Locate an open or high resistance in the circuits between the automatic transmission range switch and terminal D of the cruise control module connector.
  2. Repair the open or the high resistance in the circuits between the automatic transmission range switch and terminal D of the cruise control module connector.
  3. Replace the cruise control module if these circuits are OK.

Is the repair or replacement complete?

  1. Connect all connectors and components that were disconnected.
  2. Verify that the cruise control disengages properly.
