Removal Procedure

Notice: Always connect or disconnect the wiring harness connector from the EBCM/EBTCM with the ignition switch in the OFF position. Failure to observe this precaution could result in damage to the EBCM/EBTCM.

Notice: Avoid getting water, brake fluid or engine coolant into the socket of the EBCM/EBTCM connector. Failure to observe this precaution could result in damage to the EBCM/EBTCM.

Important: A faulty EBTCM cannot be repaired. The EBTCM must be replaced as an assembly.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Remove the hood contact switch (1).
  3. Remove one power steering fluid reservoir screw (2).
  4. Lay the fluid reservoir (3) to one side.

  6. Remove one EBTCM cover screw (2).
  7. Remove the EBTCM cover (1).

  9. Unlock the EBTCM 25-pin electrical connector tab.
  10. Remove the EBTCM 25-pin electrical connector (1).
  11. Remove the EBTCM 4-pin electrical connector (2).
  12. Remove the EBTCM 6-pin solenoid valve connector (3).

  14. Remove the five EBTCM to bracket screws (2).
  15. Remove the EBTCM (1) from the bracket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the EBTCM (1) to the bracket.
  2. Install the five EBTCM to bracket screws (2).
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the five EBTCM to bracket screws to 1.5 N·m (1.1 lb ft). Refer to

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the EBTCM 6-pin solenoid valve connector (3).
  5. Install the EBTCM 4-pin electrical connector (2).
  6. Install the EBTCM 25-pin electrical connector (1).
  7. Check that the tab locks are in place.

  9. Install the EBTCM cover (1).
  10. Install the one EBTCM cover screw (2).

  12. Install the power steering fluid reservoir (3).
  13. Install the hood contact switch (1).
  14. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  15. Perform the A Diagnostic System Check .
