Was the Steering Wheel Controls System Check performed?

  1. Before beginning diagnosis, the SIR components must be disabled. Refer to Disabling the SIR System for proper procedures.
  2. Remove the steering wheel.
  3. Disconnect the steering wheel controls connector.
  4. Use the DMM to measure the resistance from terminal B to terminal D on the switch side while pressing switch #1.

Is the measured resistance within the specified value?

76 ohms-86 ohms

Replace the steering wheel radio control switch.

Is the replacement complete?

Use the DMM to measure the resistance between terminal B and Terminal D on the switch side while pressing switch #2.

Is the measured resistance within the specified value?

150 ohms-175 ohms

Use the DMM to measure the resistance between terminal B and Terminal D on the switch side while pressing switch #3.

Is the measured resistance within the specified value?

260 ohms-310 ohms

Is the measured resistance within the specified value?

420 ohms-500 ohms

Is the measured resistance within the specified value?

720 ohms-860 ohms

Use the DMM to measure the resistance between terminal B and Terminal D on the switch side while pressing switch #6.

Is the measured resistance within the specified value?

1325 ohms-1625 ohms

  1. Disconnect the radio connector.
  2. Use the DMM to measure the resistance between the steering wheel controls connector terminal B and the radio connector terminal F8.

Is the measured resistance within the specified value?

Less than 5 ohms

  1. Locate an open or a high resistance in circuit PA101.
  2. Repair the open or the high resistance in circuit PA101.
  3. Replace the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil if circuit PA101 is OK. Refer to Steering Wheel Inflator Module Coil Replacement in Steering Wheel and Colunm - Tilt.

Is the repair or replacement complete?

Use the DMM to measure the resistance between the steering wheel controls connector terminal D and a known good ground.

Is the measured resistance within the specified value?

Less than 5 ohms

Go to Step 13

  1. Locate an open or a high resistance in circuits X1 and/or F122.
  2. Repair the open or the high resistance in circuits X1 and/or F122.
  3. Replace the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil if circuits X1 and/or F122 are OK. Refer to Steering Wheel Inflator Module Coil Replacement in Steering Wheel and Colunm - Tilt.

Is the repair or replacement complete?

  1. Connect all connectors and components that were disconnected.
  2. Verify that the steering wheel radio controls operate properly.
