Transmission Does Not Stay in Sport Mode After Ignition is Cycled (Replace IPC)

Subject:Transmission Does Not Stay in Sport Mode After Ignition is Cycled (Replace IPC)

Models:2004 Cadillac CTS
with 5L40E Automatic Transmission (RPO M82)

This bulletin is being revised to update the IPC part number. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 05-07-30-007 (Section 07 -- Transmission/Transaxle).

Condition

Some customers may comment that the transmission does not stay in sport mode after the ignition has been turned off. After the ignition is turned off, the sport mode indicator will turn off and the system will default to the non sport mode. The button must be pressed again to return to sport mode.

Cause

The cause may be due to a message timing conflict that exists in the cluster software between the IPC and RIM.

Correction

Replace the instrument panel cluster (IPC) with an exchange unit, GM P/N 25751848 . Refer to the Instrument Panel Cluster Replacement procedure in the Instrument Panel, Gages and Console sub-section of the SI. This cluster will contain updated software that has been modified to resolve the messaging condition.

The revised part number will also be written to cluster memory so that it may be read by the Tech 2®. This will allow technicians to determine which level of software is in the vehicle without removing the cluster.

Parts Information

IPC exchange units can obtained from Electronic Service Centers. Canadian dealers must obtain parts from an authorized Canadian Electronic Service Centre.
