VME: Friday, January 21, 2005
This message is being sent to all Cadillac dealers today, January 21, 2005. Based on information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, NHTSA, website, the media may report that General Motors will be announcing a product safety recall involving certain 2004 model year Cadillac CTS and SRX vehicles. An interaction between the sensing and diagnostic module and the vehicle electrical system in these vehicles may cause the driver’s frontal airbag and/or roof rail airbag to deploy when the ignition key is turned to the on position. A person positioned for driving may receive minor injuries, such as abrasions, from the contact with the deploying airbag. To correct this condition, dealers will replace the sensing and diagnostic module on all involved vehicles. These repairs will be made at no charge to the customer. Approximately 93,000 vehicles are involved. GM is working with its suppliers to obtain the parts needed to correct this condition as quickly as possible. Based on the anticipated schedule, we plan to notify the first group of customers about this recall during May 2005. Then subsequently as part availability improves, we will notify other groups until all customers are notified. As these phases notifications take place, dealers will be advised via GM Administrative Message. GMVIS information for this recall will not be available until it is formally announced during May 2005. This message is in GM Dealer World as message number WIR20050146.
