Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement LA3, LY9

Tools Required

J 44827 Transmission Cooler Quick Disconnect

Removal Procedure
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement in Body Front End.

    3. Object Number: 785770 Size: SH
  3. Remove the wiring harness retainer (2) from the transmission fluid cooler pipes brace (1).

    4. Object Number: 785866 Size: SH
  4. Remove the bolt securing the transmission fluid cooler pipes brace to the engine.
  5. Place an oil drain pan under the transmission fluid cooler pipes.

    6. Object Number: 795414 Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the fluid cooler hoses from the transmission fluid cooler by using the J 44827 .

    7. Object Number: 785867 Size: SH
  7. Remove the bolt securing the transmission fluid cooler pipe retainer to the transmission.
  8. Remove the transmission fluid cooler pipes from the transmission, and position aside.
  9. Remove the O-rings. Do not reuse the O-rings.

  10. Remove the fluid cooler pipe assembly from the vehicle.

    11. Object Number: 785865 Size: SH
  11. Remove the transmission fluid inlet pipe (1) from the retainer (2).

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 785865 Size: SH
  1. Hook the retainer (2) over the transmission fluid inlet pipe (1).

    2. Object Number: 785864 Size: SH
  2. Install the fluid cooler pipe assembly to the vehicle.
  3. Connect the fluid cooler lines to the transmission fluid cooler using the following steps.
    4. 3.1. Push the transaxle fluid cooler pipe into the quick connect fitting, until a "click" is heard.
    3.2. Tug gently on the cooler pipe to ensure proper retention.

  4. Place NEW seals over the transmission fluid cooler pipes.
  5. Insert the transmission fluid cooler pipes into the transmission.

    6. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  6. Install the bolt securing the transmission fluid cooler pipe retainer to the transmission.

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the transmission fluid cooler pipe retainer bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  7. Install the bolt securing the transmission fluid cooler pipes brace to the engine.

    8. Tighten
    Tighten the transmission fluid cooler pipes brace bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  8. Install the wiring harness retainer (2) to the transmission fluid cooler pipes brace (1).
  9. Install the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement in Body Front End.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Check the transmission fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check .
  12. Inspect for fluid leaks.

J 44827 Transmission Cooler Quick Disconnect

Removal Procedure
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement in Body Front End.

    3. Object Number: 1213016 Size: SH
  3. Place an oil drain pan under the transmission fluid cooler pipes near the radiator.

    4. Object Number: 795414 Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the transmission fluid cooler pipes from the transmission fluid cooler by using the J 44827 .

    5. Object Number: 1213017 Size: SH
  5. Remove the bolt securing the transmission fluid cooler pipes bracket to the engine.

    6. Object Number: 785867 Size: SH
  6. Remove the bolt securing the transmission fluid cooler pipes retainer to the transmission.
  7. Remove the transmission fluid cooler pipes from the transmission, and position aside.
  8. Remove the O-rings. Do not reuse the O-rings.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1213017 Size: SH
  1. Install the fluid cooler pipe assembly to the vehicle.

    2. Object Number: 1213016 Size: SH
  2. Connect the transmission fluid cooler pipes to the transmission fluid cooler at the radiator using the following steps:
    3. 2.1. Push the transmission fluid cooler pipes into the quick connect fitting, until a "click" is heard.
    2.2. Tug gently on the transmission cooler pipes to ensure proper retention.

  3. Place NEW seals over the transmission fluid cooler pipes.
  4. Insert the transmission fluid cooler pipes into the transmission.

    5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the bolt securing the transmission fluid cooler pipe retainer to the transmission.

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the transmission fluid cooler pipe retainer bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  6. Install the bolt securing the transmission fluid cooler pipes brace to the engine.

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the transmission fluid cooler pipes brace bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  7. Install the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement in Body Front End.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Inspect the transmission fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check .
  10. Inspect for fluid leaks.
