Did you perform the Engine Electrical Diagnostic System Check?

Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the battery charge indicator illuminate?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the engine.
  2. Disconnect the generator harness connector.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the generator turn-on signal circuit and ground.
  4. Start the engine.

Does the charge indicator illuminate?

Go to Charging System Test

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Operate the vehicle within the conditions for running DTC P1637 (LS6), DTC P1668 (LY7), or DTC P2500 (LY9 and LA3).
  3. Using the scan tool, observe the specific DTC information for the DTCs until the test runs.

Does the scan tool indicate that the generator L-terminal DTC has failed this ignition cycle?

Go to Step 8

Test the generator turn on signal circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 9

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the engine control module (ECM). Refer to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 9

Important: The replacement powertrain control module (PCM) must be programmed.

Replace the PCM. Refer to Engine Control Module Replacement in Engine Controls - 2.6L and 3.2L, Engine Control Module Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.6L (LY7), or Powertrain Control Module Replacement in Engine Controls - 5.7L.

Replace the instrument panel cluster (IPC). Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
