Generator Replacement LA3, LY9
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Remove the intake air resonator. Refer to
Intake Air Resonator Replacement
in Engine Controls-2.6L and 3.2L.
- Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to
Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement
in Engine Mechanical-2.6L and 3.2L.
- Remove the generator mounting bolts.
- Lift the generator off of the mounting features on the engine in order to gain access to the connector and the generator output BAT terminal nut.
- Disconnect the wiring harness connector (2) from the generator (1).
- Reposition the protective boot from the generator output BAT terminal for access.
- Remove the generator output BAT terminal nut (1) and disconnect the battery positive lead (2) from the generator.
- Remove the generator from the engine.
Installation Procedure
- Position the generator near the wiring harness connector and the battery positive lead.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Connect the battery positive lead (2) to the generator and install the generator output BAT terminal nut (1).
Tighten
Tighten the generator output BAT terminal nut to 12.5 N·m (111 lb in).
- Press the protective boot on to the generator output BAT terminal.
- Connect the wiring harness connector (2) to the generator (1).
- Position the generator to the mounting features on the engine.
- Install the generator mounting bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the generator mounting bolts to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).
- Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to
Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement
in Engine Mechanical-2.6L and 3.2L.
- Install the intake air resonator. Refer to
Intake Air Resonator Replacement
in Engine Controls-2.6L and 3.2L.
- Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
Generator Replacement LS6
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer
to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls - 5.7L.
- Remove the radiator fan assembly. Refer to
Engine Cooling Fan Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the accessory drive belt (3). Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory
in Engine Mechanical - 5.7L.
- Remove the bolt securing the power steering pressure hose bracket to the
generator.
- Remove the rear generator mounting bolt (1).
- Remove the front generator mounting bolts (2,3).
- Lift the generator off of the mounting bracket in order to gain access
to the connector and the generator output BAT terminal nut.
- Disconnect the wire harness electrical connector from the generator.
- Reposition the protective boot from the generator output battery terminal
for access.
- Remove the generator output battery terminal nut and disconnect the battery
positive lead from the generator.
- Remove the generator from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Position the generator near the installed position.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Connect the battery positive lead to the generator and install the generator
output battery terminal nut.
Tighten
Tighten the generator output battery terminal nut to 13 N·m (115 lb in).
- Press the protective boot on to the generator output BAT terminal.
- Connect the wiring harness connector to the generator.
- Position the generator to the generator bracket on the engine.
- Install the front generator mounting bolts (2,3), but do not tighten
at this time.
- Install the rear generator mounting bolt (1). Tighten the bolts
in the following order.
Tighten
Tighten the front generator mounting bolt (3) to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
Tighten
Tighten the front generator mounting bolt (2) to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
Tighten
Tighten the rear generator mounting bolt (1) to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Install the bolt securing the power steering
pressure hose bracket to the generator.
Tighten
Tighten the power steering pressure hose bracket nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Install the accessory drive belt (3). Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory
in Engine Mechanical - 5.7L.
- Install the radiator fan assembly. Refer to
Engine Cooling Fan Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls - 5.7L.
- Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
Generator Replacement LY7
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Remove the drive belt from the generator. Refer to
Water Pump and Generator Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical - 3.6L (LY7).
- Install the engine support fixture. Refer to
Engine Support Fixture
in Engine Mechanical - 3.6L (LY7).
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in
General Information.
- Disconnect the electrical connector (1)
from the generator.
- Reposition the protective boot from the generator output BAT terminal
for access.
- Remove the generator output BAT terminal nut (3) and remove the
battery positive lead (2) from the generator.
- Disconnect the electronic brake control module (EBCM) electrical connector.
- Remove the engine mount lower nuts.
- Remove the generator lower bolts.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Raise the engine using the support fixture.
- Remove the generator upper bolt.
- Remove the generator from the engine.
- If necessary, remove the generator shield bolts and shield.
Installation Procedure
- If necessary, install the generator shield and
bolts.
- Install the generator to the engine.
- Lower the engine using the support fixture.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in
General Information.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the engine mount lower nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 80 N·m (59 lb ft).
- Install the generator lower bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the generator bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Install the battery positive lead (2)
and the generator BAT terminal nut (3) to the generator.
Tighten
Tighten the generator BAT terminal nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the BAT terminal boot.
- Connect the electrical connector (1) to the generator.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the generator upper bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the generator bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Remove the engine support fixture. Refer to
Engine Support Fixture
in Engine Mechanical - 3.6L (LY7).
- Install the drive belt to the generator. Refer to
Water Pump and Generator Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical - 3.6L (LY7).
- Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
