Some 1987 Allantes may exhibit vinyl trim coming loose on the hardtop rear bow (see Figure 1). This condition may be caused by incorrect installation of the vinyl to the rear bow.
To repair this condition, use the following procedure:
1. Remove the hardtop from the vehicle and lay it on a protected surface.
2. Identify the areas where the vinyl is not glued along the rear bow (see Figure 1).
3. Using a blunt instrument, carefully peel back the vinyl to expose the unglued surface (see Figure 2).
4. Hold the exposed surface down with the blunt instrument and carefully apply a bead of Locktite (registered trade mark) 401 Instant Adhesive to the unglued vinyl (see Figure 3).
5. Using a wooden wedge with the dimensions shown in figure 4, hold the vinyl down in the manner shown for a minimum of 15 minutes (see Figure 5).
6. Use the most applicable labour operation from the Canadian Labour Time guide and claim .9 hours.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
