PUNCTURE PULL-DOWN MOTOR COVER REPAIR PROCEDURE

MODELS AFFECTED: 1987 ALLANTE

Some 1987 Allante-s may experience a condition of a punctured pull-down motor cover (see Figure 1).

This condition may be caused by the soft-top hook contacting and puncturing a hole in the lower section of the pull-down motor cover. To repair this condition, use the following procedure.

1. Remove hardtop and place on a protected surface.

2. Pull soft-top cover lever and open boot.

3. Raise soft-top out of well.

4. Latch front handles.

5. Remove pull-down motor cover.

6. With a file, remove 1/8" stock from plastic post or until sufficient clearance (see Figure 2).

NOTE: Hole in square post is not utilized.

7. Install a new pull-down motor cover, P/N 1645369.

8. Return soft-top to stowed position.

NOTICE: When operating the soft-top and retuming it into the stowed position, do not release the red lever shown in Figure 3. Releasing this lever while retracting the soft-top will cause the assembly to move backward and will result in pull down hook to pull-down motor cover interference.

9. Install hardtop.

For warranty purposes, use Labor Operation B3750 at .4 hour.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
