Power Steering Hoses Replacement Buick

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 277305  Size: SH
  3. Remove the front splash shield.
  4. Remove the wheel splash shield.
  5. Remove the following components:
  6. • The bolts (4)
    • The retainers (3)
  7. Remove the alternator frame brace bolts.
  8. Remove the alternator frame brace.
  9. Disconnect the connections at the following locations:
  10. • The gear
    • The pump
  11. Disconnect the hoses (1,2).

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the hoses (1,2) into place.
  2. Connect the connections at the following locations:
  3. • The gear
    • The pump
  4. Install the alternator frame brace.
  5. Install the alternator frame brace bolts.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the following components:
  8. • The retainers (3)
    • The bolts (4)

    Tighten

       • 

    Tighten the retainer bolts (4) to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

       • 

    Tighten the power steering gear inlet hose to the pump, to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

       • 

    Tighten the power steering gear inlet hose to the steering gear, to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  9. Install the wheel splash shield.
  10. Install the front splash shield.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Fill the system and bleed the system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  13. Inspect the power steering system for leaks.

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 277308  Size: MH
  1. Remove the bolt (6) that secures the clamp of the inlet hose (1) to the alternator bracket.
  2. Disconnect the connector (4) to power steering pressure sensor switch (5).
  3. Remove the 2 nuts (3) that secure the clamps of the outlet hose (2) to the alternator mounting.
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  5. Object Number: 277307  Size: SH
  6. Remove the front splash shield.
  7. Remove the wheel splash shield.
  8. Remove the following components:
  9. • The bolts (4)
    • The retainers (3)
  10. Remove the alternator frame brace bolts.
  11. Remove the alternator frame brace.
  12. Disconnect the connections at the following locations:
  13. • The gear
    • The pump
  14. Disconnect the hoses (1,2).

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the hoses (1,2) into place.
  2. Connect the connections at the following locations:
  3. • The gear
    • The pump
  4. Install the alternator frame brace.
  5. Install the alternator frame brace bolts.

    Tighten the retainer bolts (4) to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

    Tighten the power steering gear inlet hose to the pump, to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

       • 

    Tighten the power steering gear inlet hose to the steering gear, to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  9. Install the wheel splash shield.
  10. Install the front splash shield.
  11. Lower the vehicle.

  12. Object Number: 277308  Size: MH
  13. Install the bolt (6) that secures the clamp of the inlet hose (1) to the alternator bracket.
  14. Connect the connector (4) to the power steering pressure sensor switch (5).
  15. Install the 2 nuts (3) that secure the clamps of the outlet hose (2) to the alternator mounting.
  16. Fill the system.
  17. Bleed the system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  18. Inspect the power steering system for leaks.
