Was the entire Memory Seats System Check performed?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Connect a fused jumper from the memory seat/mirror diagnostic connector to ground (the connector may be taped up into the body harness).
  3. Listen for a chime that acknowledges entrance into mode 1 diagnostics.

Does the memory seat/mirror module chime once and enter diagnostic mode?

Inspect CKT 571 (YEL/BLK) for an open. Refer to Testing for Continuity in Wiring Systems.

Is CKT 571 OK?

  1. Refer to Memory Seats System Check for a detailed explanation of the memory seat/mirror diagnostic modes.
  2. Operate the MEMORY-1, the MEMORY-2, and the SET buttons on the left seat/lock switch (Oldsmobile) or the outside mirror switch (Buick).
  3. The module will chime once for each switch input that the module receives.

  4. Any time a switch is operated and the module does not chime, the module did not receive an input from that switch.

Were there any switch operations where the memory seat/mirror module did not sound a chime?

  1. Disconnect the ground from the memory seat/mirror diagnostic connector and then reconnect the ground again within 5 seconds.
  2. The module will chime twice in order to acknowledge entrance into mode 2 diagnostics.

Does the module chime twice?

  1. Refer to Memory Seats System Check for a detailed explanation of the memory seat/mirror diagnostic modes.
  2. Operate the left seat switch in all directions.
  3. The module will chime once for each open or short circuit to a position sensor or any position sensor discontinuity.

  4. Any time a switch is operated and the module chimes, the module senses a problem with the position sensor.

Were there any switch operations where the memory seat/mirror module sounded a chime?

Inspect CKT 782 (BLK) for an open or short. Refer to Testing for Continuity in Wiring Systems.

Is CKT 782 OK?

Inspect the following circuits for an open between the left seat/lock switch (Oldsmobile) or the outside mirror switch (Buick) and the memory seat/mirror module:

    • CKT 615 (WHT) MEMORY-1
    • CKT 616 (PPL) MEMORY-2
    • CKT 614 (ORN) SET

Refer to Testing for Continuity in Wiring Systems.

Is the suspect circuit OK?

Replace the left seat/lock switch (Oldsmobile) or the outside mirror switch (Buick). Refer to Power Seat Switch Replacement in Seats or Power Mirror Switch Replacement in Doors.

Is the repair complete?

Perform the Memory Seats System Check .

Is the symptom still present?

Replace the memory seat/mirror module. Refer to Memory Seat Control Module Replacement .
