The door hinge components affect the performance of vital components and systems. Replace or repair the door hinge components when necessary in order to avoid unnecessary and expensive repairs of other components. Replace each part with one of the same part number or with an equivalent part. Do not use replacement parts of lesser quality or substitute design. Use the specified torque values during reassembly in order to ensure proper retention of the following parts:

    • The door
    • The body

The hinges are bolted to the door and to the body. Floating anchor plates in the door and in the front body hinge pillars provide for door adjustments. When adjusting the door fore and aft, refer to Door Lock Striker Adjustment . Perform the door adjustments in the following sequence:

    • Up and down
    • Forward and rearward
    • In and out

Before attempting any door alignments, remove the door lock striker for the following reasons:

    • In order to allow the door to hang freely on the hinges.
    • In order to eliminate the possibility of striker interference with proper door alignment.

The striker holds the door firmly in the door opening. Do not use the striker in order to force the door into proper alignment. Following the door adjustment, adjust the striker. After you adjust a hinge or a striker, touch-up any exposed unpainted surfaces on the hinge or the striker pillar.
