Power Windows Inoperative - One Oldsmobile

Did you perform the Power Windows System Check?

  1. Disconnect the power window switch at the malfunctioning door.
  2. Using a digital multimeter (DMM), measure the resistance between window switch terminal  F and terminal B while pressing the switch in the down direction.
  3. Using a DMM, measure the resistance between window switch terminal F and terminal D while pressing the switch in the up direction.

Is the resistance within the specified range for both measurements?

0-5 ohms

Go to Step 4

Replace the inoperative power window switch. Refer to Door Lock and Side Window Switch Replacement .

Is the replacement complete?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Using a DMM, measure the voltage between the window switch harness connector terminal F and ground.

Does the voltage measure within the specified range?

10-15 V

Go to Step 6

Repair the open in CKT 1307 (DK BLU).

Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Reconnect the power window switch.
  2. Using a DMM, measure the voltage at the malfunctioning door power window switch terminal D and terminal B.
  3. Press the power window switch at the inoperative window to the DOWN position.
  4. Press the power window switch at the inoperative window to the UP position.

Does the voltage measure within the specified range for both switch positions?

10-15 V

  1. Connect a DMM between terminal D and terminal B of the power window switch.
  2. Press the inoperative power window switch DOWN at the LH front power window switch.
  3. Press the inoperative power window switch UP at the LH front power window switch.

Does the voltage measure within the specified range for both switch positions?

10-15 V

Test for an open or short to ground in one of the following circuits:

    • CKT 166 (LT BLU)
    • CKT 167 (TAN)
    • CKT 168 (DK GRN)
    • CKT 169 (PPL)
    • CKT 170 (LT GRN)
    • CKT 171 (PPL)

Is the circuit OK?

--

Go to Step 10

Repair the open or short to ground in the faulty circuit.

Replace the LH front power window switch.

  1. Reconnect the power window switch at the malfunctioning door.
  2. Disconnect the power window motor at the malfunctioning door.
  3. Using a DMM, measure the voltage between window motor terminals A and B while pressing the malfunctioning door window switch in the up and down directions.

Does the voltage measure within the specified range?

10-15 V

Repair an open or short to ground in one of the following circuits:

    • CKT 666 (DK BLU)
    • CKT 667 (BRN)
    • CKT 668 (DK BLU)
    • CKT 169 (PPL)
    • CKT 670 (DK BLU)
    • CKT 671 (BRN)

  1. Reconnect the power window switch.
  2. Using a DMM, measure the voltage at the malfunctioning door power window switch terminal L and terminal M.
  3. Press the power window switch at the inoperative window to the DOWN position.
  4. Press the power window switch at the inoperative window to the UP position.

Does the voltage measure within the specified range for both switch positions?

10-15 V

  1. Connect a DMM between terminal L and terminal M of the power window switch.
  2. Press the inoperative power window switch DOWN at the LH front door lock/window switch.
  3. Press the inoperative power window switch UP at the LH front door lock/window switch.

Does the voltage measure within the specified range for both switch positions?

10-15 V

Test for an open or short to ground in one of the following circuits:

    • CKT 166 (LT BLU)
    • CKT 167 (TAN)
