Rear Bumper Impact Bar Replacement Oldsmobile

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the rear fascia from the vehicle. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 282617  Size: MH
  4. Remove the 3 nuts (2) and the bolts (3) that retain the impact bar (1) to the vehicle.
  5. Remove the impact bar (1) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 282617  Size: MH
  1. Install the impact bar (1) to the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the nuts (2) and the bolts (3) that retain the impact bar (1) to the vehicle.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).

  5. Install the rear fascia to the vehicle. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement .
  6. Lower the vehicle.

  5. Remove the impact bar (1) from the vehicle.
