  1. Connect a scan tool.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  3. Access the output tests for the rear defogger.
  4. Observe the relay ON/OFF while pressing the rear defog button.

Does zone 1 turn ON followed by zone 2?

Use the scan tool in order to command the rear defogger on.

  1. Remove the rear defog relays.
  2. Connect a J 34142-B unpowered test light between the relay terminal C3 (relay 1), or C7 (relay 2), and ground. Refer to Troubleshooting with a Test Lamp in Wiring Systems.

Does the test lamp light?

Repair the open in CKT 1240 (ORN) relay 1 or CKT 1440 (ORN) relay 2. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the short to ground in CKT 1240 (ORN) relay 1 or CKT 1440 (ORN) relay 2. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the short to ground in CKT 270 (TAN) relay 1 or CKT 293 (PPL) relay 2. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Connect a J 34142-B unpowered test light between the relay 1 terminal C1, or relay 2 terminal C5, and ground. Refer to Troubleshooting with a Test Lamp in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or short in CKT 41. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Connect a J 34142-B unpowered test light between relay 1 terminal C1 and B3 or relay 2 terminal C5 and B7. Refer to Troubleshooting with a Test Lamp in Wiring Systems.
  2. Press the rear defog button.

Does the test lamp light?

Test CKT 1777 (RED) relay 1 or CKT 193 (WHT) relay 2 for an open. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Remove the HTD O/S mirror fuse.
  2. Connect a J 34142-B unpowered test light between the relay 1 terminal C3 and B1, or relay 2 terminal C7 and B, and ground. Refer to Troubleshooting with a Test Lamp in Wiring Systems.
