Did you perform the Vehicle Theft Deterrent (VTD) System Check?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition switch.
  2. Disconnect the starter enable relay.
  3. Connect a fused jumper between the starter enable relay harness connector terminal C1 and terminal A2.
  4. Attempt to start the vehicle.

Does the vehicle start?

--

Go to Step 4

Does the engine crank?

--

Go to Step 6

Measure the voltage between the starter enable relay harness connector C202 CKT 5 and ground while trying to start the engine.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

10-15 V

Go to Step 11

  1. Disconnect the PCM connector C1 (BLU).
  2. Measure the resistance between terminal C2 and ground.

Is the resistance within the specified range?

0-5 ohms

Inspect the following PASS-Key®II module terminals for proper connections:

  1. Terminal A1
  2. Terminal A2
  3. Terminal B2
  4. Terminal B5
  5. Terminal B6

Refer to Intermittents and Poor Connections Diagnosis in Wiring Systems.

Are the terminal connections OK?

Test the following power and ground circuits to the PASS-Key®II module for an open or a short to ground:

  1. CKT 439
  2. CKT 251
  3. CKT 1642

Are the circuits OK?

  1. Repair the short to ground in CKT 1433. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  2. Reconnect the PCM connector C1.

Is the repair complete?

--

Inspect the IP fuse block crank fuse

Is the fuse OK?

--

Go to Step 10

Test CKT 806 for an open or a short to ground.

Is the CKT OK?

Measure the voltage between the starter enable relay harness connector terminal C2 and terminal A1 while trying to start the engine.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

10-15 V

Go to Step 16

  1. Inspect the PARK/NEUTRAL position switch for proper operation.
  2. Inspect the PASS-Key®II module terminal A4 for proper connections.

Refer to Intermittents and Poor Connections Diagnosis in Wiring Systems.

Is the terminal contact OK?

Test the following circuits for an open:

  1. CKT 625
  2. CKT 575
  3. CKT 806

Are the circuits OK?

Replace the PASS-Key®II theft deterrent module. Refer to Theft Deterrent Module Replacement .
