Test the key in the J 35628-A .

Is the key code valid?

--

  1. Clean the key.
  2. Retest the key in the J 35628-A .

Is the key code valid?

  1. Connect both of the J 35628-100 Adaptor Harness 48-Way connectors to the steering column connector.
  2. Connect one J 35628-100 Adaptor Harness 48-Way connector (ignition lock side) to the interrogator.
  3. Test the lock cylinder with the following procedure:
  4. 3.1. Rotate the lock cylinder through all of the positions.
    3.2. Observe the key code display.
    3.3. Repeat the procedure 10 times.

Does the display match the specified code or change to another key code value at any position?

E for Error

  1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  2. Disconnect the J 35628-100 Adaptor Harness and the J 35628-A .
  3. Measure the resistance between connector C202 (ignition lock side) terminal A17 and ground.
  4. Measure the resistance between connector C202 (ignition lock side) terminal A16 and ground.

Is the resistance within the specified range?

OL (Infinite)

Go to Step 7

Replace the ignition lock cylinder and the keys. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle .

Is the repair complete?

--

  1. Reconnect connector C202.
  2. Measure the resistance across the key pellet. Record the value.
  3. Put the key into the ignition lock cylinder.
  4. Disconnect the PASS-Key®II module connector.
  5. Measure the resistance between the PASS-Key®II module harness connector terminal B7 and terminal B8.

Is the resistance within the specified range of the key pellet resistance?

0-10 ohms

Inspect connector C202 terminal A16 and terminal A17 for proper connections. Refer to Intermittents and Poor Connections Diagnosis in Wiring Systems.

Are the connections OK?

--

Go to Step 9

Repair either of the following circuits for an open or high resistance between connector C202 and the PASS-Key®II module connector:

    • CKT 1073
    • CKT 1074

Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Place the key in the lock cylinder in the OFF position.
  2. Measure the resistance between the PASS-Key®II decoder module harness connector terminal B8 and ground.
  3. Measure the resistance from the PASS-Key®II decoder module harness connector terminal B7 to ground.

Does the resistance measure within the specified range?

OL (Infinite)

Go to Step 12

Repair a short to ground in either of the following circuits between connector C202 at the base of the steering column and the PASS-Key®II decoder module connector:

    • CKT 1073
    • CKT 1074

Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Inspect the PASS-Key®II module harness connector for proper connections. Refer to Intermittents and Poor Connections Diagnosis in Wiring Systems.

Are the terminal contacts OK?

Test CKT 851 for an open.

Is the circuit OK?

--

Repair the open in CKT 851. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Reconnect the PASS-Key®II module connector.
  2. Start the engine.

Does the engine start?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  2. Observe the security indicator.

Does the indicator turn off after 3 minutes?

Is the terminal contact OK?

Start the engine using a spare key.

Does the engine start?

Replace the suspect key. Match the key code with the spare key.

Is the repair complete?
