Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 397247 Size: SH
  1. Remove the fasteners (1) from the sound insulator to the instrument panel (IP) lower.
  2. Remove the courtesy lamp (3) from the sound insulator by twisting the lamp a quarter turn counter-clockwise.
  3. Disengage the data link connector from the insulator panel.
  4. Pull the sound insulator (2) rearward and remove the sound insulator from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the pin (4) into the accelerator hole (Oldsmobile only).
  2. Install the courtesy lamp (3) to the sound insulator by twisting the lamp clockwise a quarter turn.
  3. Fasten the data link connector to the insulator panel.
  4. Raise the sound insulator (2) up to the instrument panel (IP) lower.

    5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the sound insulator fasteners (1).

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).
