Air Bag Warning

The driver information center (DIC) displays the AIR BAG PROBLEM message when the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) module determines that a problem exists with the SIR system. The DIC receives the SIR data from the instrument cluster. The data travels on the universal asynchronous receiving/transmitting (UART) B serial data line.

Battery Voltage Information

The powertrain control module (PCM) provides battery voltage information to the instrument cluster through the universal asynchronous receiving/transmitting (UART) serial data line. The instrument cluster transmits the data to the driver information center (DIC) on the UART B serial data line. The DIC displays the battery voltage when the ENG/5 button is toggled.

Charge Warning System

When the instrument cluster determines that the generator input is grounded for 10 seconds, the instrument cluster directs the driver information center (DIC) to display the CHECK CHARGE SYSTEM warning.

Coolant Level Information

The engine coolant level switch sends the engine coolant level information to the powertrain control module (PCM). If the switch returns a signal that indicates a low coolant condition, the PCM transmits a low engine coolant signal to the instrument cluster on the universal asynchronous receiving/transmitting (UART) B serial data line. The driver information center (DIC) then displays the LOW ENGINE COOLANT warning.

Coolant Temperature Information

The powertrain control module (PCM) provides coolant temperature information to the instrument cluster through the universal asynchronous receiving/transmitting (UART) serial data line. The instrument cluster provides the data to the driver information center (DIC) through the UART B serial data line. The DIC displays the coolant temperature. If the coolant temperature exceeds 127°C (261°F) the HOT . . . STOP ENGINE warning is displayed.

Date

The instrument cluster retains the date information. The instrument cluster transmits the data to the driver information center (DIC) through the universal asynchronous receiving/transmitting (UART) B serial data line.

Door Ajar Warning

The door jamb switch inputs provide door ajar information to the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster transmits the data to the driver information center (DIC) through the universal asynchronous receiving/transmitting (UART) B serial data line. The DIC displays the appropriate message under the following conditions:

    • When the corresponding input is grounded.
    • When the gear selector is not in the PARK position or the NEUTRAL position.

Fuel Level Information

The fuel level sender provides the fuel level status to the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster transmits the data to the driver information center (DIC) through the universal asynchronous receiving/transmitting (UART) B serial data line. The DIC displays the LOW FUEL message when the fuel level falls below 12.5 L (3.3 Gal).

HVAC Overheated and Low Refrigerant Warning

The driver information center (DIC) displays the A/C OFF . . . OVERHEATED warning when the powertrain control module (PCM) detects an air conditioning (A/C) overheated condition. The DIC displays the LOW A/C REFRIGERANT message when the PCM determines that the refrigerant is low. The instrument cluster transmits the data to the DIC through the universal asynchronous receiving/transmitting (UART) B serial data line.

Low Brake Fluid Warning

The brake fluid level switch is grounded when the brake fluid falls below a specified level. The brake fluid level switch provides the brake fluid level information to the instrument cluster. When the instrument cluster detects that the brake fluid level switch is closed, the instrument cluster directs the driver information center (DIC) to display the LOW BRAKE FLUID warning. The instrument cluster transmits the data to the DIC through the universal asynchronous receiving/transmitting (UART) B serial data line.

Low Washer Fluid Warning

The washer fluid level switch is grounded when the washer fluid level falls below a specified level. The washer fluid level switch provides the washer fluid level status information to the instrument cluster. When the instrument cluster determines that the washer fluid level switch is closed, the instrument cluster directs the driver information center (DIC) to display the LOW WASHER FLUID warning. The instrument cluster transmits the data to the DIC through the universal asynchronous receiving/transmitting (UART) B serial data line.

Oil Level Warning

The oil level sensing system consists of the following components:

    • An oil level switch
    • The powertrain control module (PCM)

The oil level switch provides the oil level data to the PCM through CKT 174 (BRN). If the PCM determines that a low oil level condition exists, the PCM sends the low oil level message to the instrument cluster through the universal asynchronous receiving/transmitting (UART) serial data line CKT 800 (TAN). The instrument cluster transmits the data to the driver information center (DIC) through the UART B serial data line CKT 1061 (ORN/BLK). The DIC displays the CHECK OIL LEVEL warning when the data is received.

Oil Life Information

The powertrain control module (PCM) provides the oil life data to the instrument cluster through the universal asynchronous receiving/transmitting (UART) A serial data line. The instrument cluster transmits the data to the driver information center (DIC) through the UART B serial data line. The DIC displays the remaining oil life when the ENG/5 button is toggled.

Oil Pressure Information

The instrument cluster transmits the oil pressure information to the driver information center (DIC) on the universal asynchronous receiving/transmitting (UART) B serial data line. The DIC displays the oil pressure status when the ENG/5 button is toggled. The LOW OIL PRESSURE warning is displayed if the oil pressure is low.

Park Brake Set Warning

The park brake input terminal is grounded when the park brake is applied and the gear selector is not in the PARK position or the NEUTRAL position. The driver information center (DIC) displays the PARK BRAKE SET message and a fast chime sounds briefly.

Transmission Fluid Life Information

The powertrain control module (PCM) provides the transmission fluid life data to the instrument cluster through the universal asynchronous receiving/transmitting (UART) serial data line. The instrument cluster transmits the data to the driver information center (DIC) on the UART B serial data line. The DIC displays the transmission fluid life when the ENG/5 button is toggled.
