Power Button (PWR) - On/Off Switch

Important: When jump starting the vehicle, turn off the radio in order to avoid damage to the sound system.

Pressing the PWR knob alternately turns the radio ON or OFF.

Volume Control (VOL)

A single multi-function rotary/push control provides the following functions:

    • The ON/OFF power
    • The volume control

The volume control portion of the switch is a continuous rotary detent type with 36 detents per revolution. You may increase or decrease the volume over a range of 64 possible steps. The volume function will not be available during radio conditions that do not permit audio output such as actively seeking/scanning in tuner or tape modes. Each momentary button closure causes the volume to increase or decrease by 1 step. Pressing either one of these buttons causes the volume to change at a rate of 12 steps per second.

Stereo Indicator

ST displays whenever a stereo broadcast is received.

Tune Control

The tuning control is a continuous rotary knob with 20 detents per revolution. Press the knob lightly in order to extend the knob to the out position. Turn the controls in the following directions in order to tune the receiver:

    • Turn the controls clockwise in order to increase the frequency.
    • Turn the controls counter-clockwise in order to decrease the frequency.

Adjusting the tuning control stops the SEEK and the SCAN functions. Tuning then continues from the frequency where you last stopped the SEEK or the SCAN function.

AM/FM Switching

The AM/FM button is a sequencing (push-push) type that toggles between the AM, FM1 and FM2 bands. The button is active anytime the unit is on.

    • Pressing the AM/FM button while the radio is in the receiver mode changes the tuning to the frequency last selected on the next band.
    • Pressing the AM/FM button while the radio is in the playback mode causes the unit to switch into the receiver mode at the last selected band and frequency.

Recall Button (RCL)

Pressing the RECALL button alternates the display between the following functions:

    • Frequency information
    • Time information

With the ignition in the OFF position, pressing the RECALL button briefly turns on the display indicating the time of day. The RECALL button has no effect while the ignition is ON if the radio is OFF, because the time of day is already displayed.

Bass and Treble Controls (BASS) (TREB)

This control is a 270 degree rotary pop-out/pull knob with the center detent that is shared between BASS and TREB. Use these controls in order to adjust the system's audio frequency response. Operate the BASS function by first pressing and then releasing the knob to the out position. The BASS function affects only the lower audio frequencies. The BASS function has a center frequency of 60 Hz.

In order to operate the TREB function, refer to the following steps:

  1. Press and release the knob to the out position.
  2. Pull the knob to the fully extended position.

The TREB function affects the high audio frequencies. The TREB function has a center frequency of 10 kHz.

The center position of a given control indicates the flat response over that particular frequency range. Moving a control to the right of center position produces boost. Moving a control to the left of center position produces a cut in frequency range related to that control. All units incorporate a loudness feature that automatically increases bass bias at low listening levels.

On the UPO model with auto tone control (ATC), any adjustment of the controls activates the MANUAL tone control (ATC) mode. The adjustment of the controls establishes the MANUAL ATC mode as default. The MANUAL tone mode displays on the ATC models. The Bass and Treble changes do not affect the radio display on non-ATC models. Press the knob back into the stored position when not in use.

Fade Control (FADE)

The FADE control is 270 degree rotary pop-out/pull knob with a center detent that is shared with the balance function. The control adjusts the relative volume between the front and the rear speakers. The control operates the following way:

  1. Press and release the knob to the out position.
  2. Pull the knob to the fully extended position.
  3. Rotate the knob clockwise in order to shift the volume from the rear speakers to the front speakers.
  4. Rotate the knob counter-clockwise in order to shift the volume from the front speakers to the rear speakers.
  5. At full rotation in either direction, the audio is eliminated from the corresponding front channels or the rear channels.

BOSE® Applications

When you use the Spatial Fade feature the control performs the same function as described above except that it mainly affects the high audio frequencies. At full rotation in either direction, as with the standard fade control, audio will be completely eliminated from the corresponding front or the rear channels (except for the subwoofer). Fade to rear and fade to front for all but the last step has no affect on the subwoofer audio. The last step of fade to front cuts the audio to the subwoofer completely.

Balance (BAL) Control

The balance (BAL) control is a 270 degree rotary pop-out/pull knob with a center detent that is shared with the fade function. The control operates in the following manner:

  1. Press and release and the knob to the out position.
  2. Rotate the knob clockwise to shift the volume from the left speakers to the right speakers.
  3. Rotate the knob counter-clockwise to shift the volume from the right speakers to the left speakers.

At full rotation in either direction, the audio is eliminated from the corresponding left and right channels. This control is active in either the in or out position.

The BOSE® models have the same feature functionality for all channels except the subwoofer output. The subwoofer has the left and the right audio summed together. The subwoofer has the audio cut completely from the opposite channel at the last left and the last right balance steps only. Intermediate balance adjustments have no effect on the subwoofer output level. The radio display is not affected by balance changes.

Station Preset Buttons

The following 15 presets are available:

    • 5 AM presets
