Headlamp Replacement Oldsmobile

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 281563  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the front fascia at the front fender. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Replacement in Bumpers.
  2. Apply masking tape to the forward edge of the fender and the fascia in order to prevent damaging the following components during removal and installation:
  3. • The headlamp lens
    • The fascia
  4. Remove the 4 bolts (2) that retain the headlamp module (3) to the vehicle.
  5. In order to disengage the locator pin from the fender, remove the headlamp module (3) using the following steps:
  6. 4.1. Lower the inboard edge of the headlamp.
    4.2. Lift the outboard edge of the headlamp.
  7. Disconnect the electrical connectors (1).
  8. Remove the park lamp socket by completing the following steps:
  9. 6.1. Squeeze the tang.
    6.2. Turn the tang in a counterclockwise direction.
  10. Turn the headlamp bulbs in a counterclockwise direction in order to remove the bulbs.

Installation Procedure

  1. Turn the headlamp bulbs in a clockwise direction in order to retain the bulbs.
  2. Install the park lamp socket by turning the socket in a clockwise direction until the tang on the socket engages the retainer on the headlamp.
  3. Connect the electrical connectors (1).
  4. Install the headlamp to the vehicle. Verify that the locator pin on the headlamp is seated properly to the fender.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the bolts (2) in order to retain the headlamp.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 9.5 N·m (84 lb in).

  8. Remove the masking tape from the fender and from the fascia. Remove the tape residue as needed.
  9. Install the front bumper fascia to the fender. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Replacement in Bumpers.
  10. If a new headlamp was installed, remove the horizontal aim adjuster restrictor from the headlamp. Discard the restrictor.
  11. Aim the headlamp. Refer to Headlamp Aiming .

Headlamp Replacement Buick

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Halogen bulbs contain gas under pressure. Handling a bulb improperly could cause it to shatter into flying glass fragments. To help avoid personal injury:

       • Turn off the lamp switch and allow the bulb to cool before changing the bulb.
       • Leave the lamp switch OFF until the bulb change is complete.
       • Always wear eye protection when changing a halogen bulb.
       • Handle the bulb only by its base. Avoid touching the glass.
       • Keep dirt and moisture off the bulb.
       • Properly dispose of the used bulb.
       • Keep halogen bulbs out of the reach of children.

  1. Remove the front bumper fascia from the front fender. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Replacement in Bumpers.
  2. Remove the front cornering lamp. Refer to Cornering Lamp Replacement .
  3. Remove the 4 bolts (2) that retain the headlamp to the vehicle.
  4. Remove the headlamp module (3).
  5. Disconnect the electrical connectors (1).
  6. Turn the headlamp bulbs in a counterclockwise direction in order to remove the bulbs.

Installation Procedure

  1. Turn the headlamp bulbs in a clockwise direction in order to retain the bulbs.
  2. Connect the electrical connectors (1).
  3. Install the headlamp module (3) to the vehicle.

  8. Install the front bumper fascia to the front fender. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Replacement in Bumpers.
  9. If a new headlamp module was installed, remove the horizontal aim adjuster restrictor from the headlamp. Discard the restrictor.
  10. Aim the headlamp. Refer to Headlamp Aiming .
