Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement Buick

Removal Procedure

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the SIR. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the left instrument panel end cap. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Left Side .
  3. Remove the right IP end cap. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Right Side .
  4. Remove the upper trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Center Trim Panel Replacement .
  5. Remove the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  6. Remove the left and right side windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  7. Tilt the steering wheel to the down position.
  8. Remove the upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .

  10. Remove the fasteners (1) that retain the trim plate to the carrier.
  11. Disconnect the electrical connectors (2).
  12. Remove the trim plate.

Installation Procedure

  1. Partially install the trim plate.

  2. Object Number: 487892  Size: SH
  3. Connect the electrical connectors (2).
  4. Align the trim plate to the instrument panel.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the fasteners (1) to the trim plate.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).

  7. Install the upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  8. Install the left and right side windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  9. Install the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  10. Install the upper trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Center Trim Panel Replacement .
  11. Install the right IP end cap. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Right Side .
  12. Install the left IP end cap. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Left Side .
  13. Adjust the tilt steering wheel to the original position.
  14. Enable the SIR. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.

Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement Oldsmobile

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the rear compartment lid/fuel filler door release switch assembly. Refer to Fuel/Rear Compartment Release Switch Replacement .
  2. Remove the interior lamp switch assembly. Refer to Twilight Sentinel Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.

  3. Object Number: 282970  Size: MH
  4. Partially remove the instrument cluster trim plate (2) by carefully pulling the plate rearward.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connectors (5) from the trim plate (2).
  6. Remove the trim plate (2).
  7. Remove the fog lamp switch (4), if necessary, by releasing the retaining tabs.
  8. Remove the power mirror switch, if necessary. Refer to Power Mirror Switch Replacement .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 282970  Size: MH
  1. Snap the fog lamp switch (4) to the cluster trim plate (2), if necessary.
  2. Install the power mirror switch, if necessary. Refer to Power Mirror Switch Replacement .
  3. Partially install the instrument cluster trim plate (2).
  4. Connect the electrical connectors (5).
  5. Insert the tabs (1) into the retainers (6) in order to install the trim plate (2) to the instrument panel.
  6. Apply pressure until the trim plate (2) is fully seated.
  7. Install the interior lamp switch assembly. Refer to Twilight Sentinel Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  8. Install the rear compartment lid/fuel filler door release switch assembly. Refer to Fuel/Rear Compartment Release Switch Replacement .
