Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 39500 Air Conditioning Refrigerant Recovery, Recycling and Recharging System.
    • J 38042 Dual O-ring Joint Separator
  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  5. Remove the underhood relay center.

  6. Object Number: 264834  Size: SH
  7. Remove the accumulator bracket retaining screw (3).
  8. Remove the right wheel house liner. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement in Body Front End.
  9. Remove the lower the fitting from the accumulator (1).
  10. Remove the upper fitting from the accumulator (1).
  11. Remove the accumulator (1) and the bracket (2).

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

J 39400 Electronic Halogen Leak Detector

  1. Position the accumulator (1) into the bracket (2).
  2. Place the bracket into the vehicle.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Connect the upper fitting to the accumulator (1).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the accumulator connection to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  6. Connect the lower fitting to the accumulator (1).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the accumulator connection to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  8. Install the accumulator bracket retaining screw (3).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the accumulator retention screw to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  10. Install the underhood relay center.
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  13. Using the J 39400 , leak test the A/C system. Refer to Leak Testing .
  14. Install the right wheel house liner. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement in Body Front End.
