Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 39500 Air Conditioning Refrigerant Recovery, Recycling and Recharging System.
    • J 38042 Dual O-ring Joint Tool
  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  2. Object Number: 46164  Size: SH
  3. Remove the upper radiator panel.

  4. Object Number: 264820  Size: SH
  5. Remove the condenser inlet pipe.

  6. Object Number: 264826  Size: SH
  7. Remove the condenser outlet pipe.

  8. Object Number: 46171  Size: SH
  9. For Buick only, disconnect the coolant overflow tube from the radiator.
  10. Remove the screws connecting the condenser to the radiator.
  11. Remove the condenser.

Installation Procedure

J 39400 Electronic Halogen Leak Detector

  1. Install the condenser foam side and the top seals.
  2. Install the condenser into the lower radiator slots.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the condenser mounting bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the condenser connections to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  6. For Buick only, connect the coolant overflow tube to the radiator.

  7. Object Number: 264826  Size: SH
  8. Install the condenser outlet pipe.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the condenser connection to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  10. Install the condenser inlet pipe.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the condenser connection to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).


    Object Number: 46164  Size: SH
  12. Install the upper radiator panel and the bolts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  14. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  15. Using the J 39400 , leak test the A/C system. Refer to Leak Testing .
