Tools Required

J 33013-B Hub and Drive Plate Remover/Installer

    Object Number: 258037 Size: SH
  1. Install the shaft key (4) into the hub key groove.
  2. Allow the key to project approximately 3.2 mm (0.125 in) out of the keyway (3). The shaft key curves slightly in order to provide an interference fit in the hub key groove.

  3. Clean the following components:
  4. • The clutch plate
    • The clutch rotor (2)
  5. Align the shaft key (4) with the shaft keyway (3).
  6. Place the clutch plate and the hub assembly (1) onto the compressor shaft.

  7. Object Number: 258038 Size: SH
  8. Remove the forcing tip on the J 33013-B .
  9. Reverse the body direction on the center screw.
  10. Install the J 33013-B with the bearing.
  11. Back off the body of the J 33013-B as necessary in order to permit the center screw to be threaded onto the end of the compressor shaft.
  12. Hold the center screw with a wrench.
  13. Tighten the hex portion of the J 33013-B body in order to press the hub onto the shaft.
  14. Tighten the body several turns.
  15. Remove the installer. Ensure that the shaft key remains in place in the keyway.
  16. Install the clutch plate and hub assembly to the final position.
  17. Ensure that the air gap (2) between frictional surfaces of the clutch plate and clutch rotor measures within 0.50-0.76 mm (0.020-0.030 in).

  18. Remove the J 33013-B .
  19. Verify proper positioning of the shaft key.
  20. Ensure that the shaft key is even with or slightly above the clutch hub.

  21. Spin the pulley rotor by hand in order to verify that the rotor does not rub against the clutch drive plate.

Compressor Clutch Plate/Hub Assembly Install V5 - Conventional Mount

Tools Required

    • J 33013-B Hub and Drive Plate Remover/Installer

    • J 33027-A Clutch Hub Holding Tool
    • J 34992 Compressor Holding Fixture
  1. Install the compressor into the J 34992 .

  2. Object Number: 237078 Size: SH
  3. Install the shaft key (4) into the key groove of the clutch plate and hub (1).
  4. • Allow the key to project 3.2 mm (0.126 in) out of the key groove.
    • The shaft key is curved slightly in order to provide an interference fit in the key groove of the hub.
  5. Clean the frictional surfaces of the clutch plate and hub and the clutch pulley rotor (2).
  6. Align the shaft key with the shaft keyway (3).
  7. Notice: Do not drive or pound on the clutch hub or the shaft. Internal damage to the compressor may result.

  8. Place the clutch plate and hub assembly onto the compressor shaft.

  9. Object Number: 237079 Size: SH
  10. Remove the center screw from the J 33013-B .
  11. Reverse the body direction of the center screw of the J 33013-B .
  12. Install the J 33013-B with the bearing.
  13. Back off the body of the J 33013-B in order to allow the center screw to be threaded onto the end of the compressor shaft.
  14. Hold the center screw of the J 33013-B with a wrench.
  15. Notice: If the center screw is threaded fully onto the end of the compressor shaft, or if the body of the installer is held and the center screw is rotated, the key will wedge and will break the clutch hub.

  16. Tighten the hex portion of the body of the J 33013-B in order to press the hub onto the shaft.
  17. Tighten the body of the J 33013-B several turns.
  18. Remove the J 33013-B .
  19. Verify that the shaft key remains in the keyway before installing the clutch plate and hub assembly to the final position.
  20. Ensure that the gap between the frictional surfaces of the clutch plate and the clutch rotor is within 0.40-0.50 mm (0.016-0.020 in).
  21. Remove the J 33013-B .
  22. Verify that the shaft key is even with or slightly above the clutch hub.
  23. Install the shaft nut.
  24. Hold the clutch plate and hub assembly with the J 33027-A .
  25. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  26. Tighten the shaft nut against the crankshaft shoulder, using a 17.5 N·m (12.5 lb ft) torque wrench and the J 33022 .
  27. Tighten
Tighten the nut to 16.5 N·m (12 lb ft).

  28. Spin the pulley rotor by hand in order to verify that the rotor does not rub the clutch drive plate.
