Heater Core Replacement Oldsmobile

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 37097-A Hose Clamp Remover/Installer.

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.

  2. Object Number: 247330  Size: SH
  3. Using the J 37097-A , remove the heater hoses from the heater core.
  4. Remove the console assembly. Refer to Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  5. Remove the auxiliary air duct connector.
  6. Remove the right sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side in Instrument Panel, Guages and Console.

  7. Object Number: 378336  Size: SH
  8. Remove the heater core heat shield screws and the cover.
  9. Remove the heater core cover screws from the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) module.
  10. Remove the heater core cover.

  11. Object Number: 292087  Size: SH
  12. Remove the retaining screws and the straps from the heater core.
  13. Remove the heater core.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 292087  Size: SH
  1. Install the heater core into the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) module.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the retaining straps and the screws to the heater core.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 1.5 N·m (18 lb lb).

  5. Install the heater core cover and the screws.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 1.5 N·m (18 lb lb).

  7. Install the heater core heat shield cover and the screws.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 1.5 N·m (18 lb lb).

  9. Install the right sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side in Instrument Panel, Guages and Console.
  10. Install the auxiliary air duct connector.
  11. Install the console assembly. Refer to Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

  12. Object Number: 247330  Size: SH
  13. Connect the heater hoses to the heater core.
  14. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.

Heater Core Replacement Buick

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 37097-A Hose Clamp Remover/Installer.

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.

  3. Remove the heater hoses (4) from the heater core (2).
  4. Remove the console assembly. Refer to Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  5. Remove the auxiliary air duct connector.
  6. Remove the right sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side in Instrument Panel, Guages and Console.

  8. Remove the heater core heat shield and the screws.
  9. Remove the heater core cover screws from the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) module.
  10. Remove the heater core cover.

  11. Object Number: 292087  Size: SH
  12. Remove the retaining screws and the straps from the heater core.
  13. Remove the heater core.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the heater core into the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) module.

  10. Install the auxiliary air duct connector.
  11. Install the console assembly. Refer to Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

  13. Connect the heater hoses to the heater core.
  14. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
