The electronic A/C system consists of the following 4 major systems:

    • The refrigeration system
    • The heater system
    • The air distribution system
    • The mode/temperature control system

The driver may select the following functions from the system control panel:

    • The desired interior temperature (the SET temperature)
    • The fan speed
    • The mode of operation

One of these modes is a fully automatic mode in which the system determines the following conditions:

    • The appropriate air intake location
    • The appropriate air discharge location
    • The fan speed
    • The discharge air temperature according to the driver-selected temperature
The system's network of sensors also provides this information.

The Oldsmobile electronic A/C system uses a cycling clutch orifice tube (CCOT) type refrigeration system. A variable displacement orifice tube (VDOT) type refrigeration system is used with the Buick.
