Removal Procedure
- Remove the rear seat cushion. Refer to
Rear Seat Cushion Replacement
in Seats.
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical.
- Remove the engine front cover. Refer to
Engine Front Cover Replacement
in Engine Mechanical.
- Remove the rear pencil brace bolts.
- Remove the brace.
- Remove the generator mounting bolts.
- Remove the output terminal nut.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the generator.
Installation Procedure
- Install the generator.
- Connect the electrical connector.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the output terminal nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
- Install the generator mounting bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Install the rear pencil brace.
- Install the rear pencil brace bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
- Install the engine front cover. Refer to
Engine Front Cover Replacement
in Engine Mechanical.
- Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical.
- Install the rear seat cushion. Refer to
Rear Seat Cushion Replacement
in Seats.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
Tighten
Tighten the cable nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

Removal Procedure
- Remove the rear seat cushion. Refer to

- Disconnect
the negative battery cable.
- Remove the upper radiator shroud.
- Remove the air inlet duct.
- Remove the radiator. Refer to
Radiator Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the accessory drive belt from the generator. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
. in Engine Mechanical.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the generator.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the lower splash
shield.
- Remove the generator mounting bolts.
- Remove the nuts and the studs.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the power steering hose from the reservoir.
- Remove the generator through
the top left side of the engine compartment.
Installation Procedure
- Install the generator
through the top left side of the engine compartment.
- Connect the power steering hose to the reservoir.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.

- Install the generator
mounting studs and nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the lower generator bracket to block nuts to 38 N·m
(28 lb ft).
- Install the generator mounting bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the generator mounting bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Install the lower splash shield.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Connect the electrical
connector.
- Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical.
- Install the radiator. Refer to
Radiator Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Install the upper radiator shroud.
- Install the air inlet duct.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Install the rear seat cushion. Refer to
Rear Seat Cushion Replacement
in Seats.
