Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the fuel injector sight shield, if equipped with engine option code L67. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical-3.8L.
  2. Disconnect the cruise control cable from the following locations:
    3. • The engine bracket
    • The TBI cam
    • The cruise control module
    • Refer to Cruise Control Cable Replacement .

  3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the module assembly (1).

    4. Object Number: 289629 Size: SH
  4. Remove the 2 fasteners (1) from the mounting studs.
  5. Remove the module assembly (2).

    6. Object Number: 289633 Size: SH
  6. Remove the fasteners (4) retaining the module to the mounting bracket.
  7. Remove the module (1) from the mounting bracket.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 289633 Size: SH
  1. Install the module (1) to the mounting bracket.

    2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  2. Install the module fasteners (4).

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 6.5 N·m (57 lb in).

  3. Install the module assembly (2) onto the mounting studs.
  4. Install the 2 fasteners (1) to the mounting studs.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  5. Connect the electrical connector to the module assembly (2).
  6. Connect the cruise control cable to the following locations:
    7. • The engine bracket
    • The TBI cam
    • The cruise control module
    • Refer to Cruise Control Cable Replacement .
  7. Adjust the cruise control cable. Refer to Cruise Control Cable Adjustment .
  8. Install the fuel injector sight shield, if equipped with engine option code L67. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical-3.8L.
