Info - LP1 and LY7 Engines Change Oil Message Does Not DIsplay When Oil Life is at 0%

Subject:LP1 and LY7 Engines Change Oil Message Does Not Display When Oil Life is at 0%

Models:2004-2005 Buick Rendezvous
2004-2005 Cadillac CTS, SRX
with 2.8L or 3.6L High Feature V6 (HFV6) Engine (VINs T, 7 -- RPOs LP1, LY7)

The following factors may cause the "Change Oil" message to not appear or only appear once briefly even though the oil life monitor is at 0%.

    • The ECM for the HFV6 does not send the "Change Oil" message to the DIC until the oil life is at 0.4%. At this point, the Oil Life Monitor will display 0%.
    • The ECM for the HFV6 sends the "Change Oil" message between key on and crank in the first 500 msec. The DIC does not display information during crank and the time between key on and crank may be too short for the message to be displayed or noticed.
    • The "Change Oil" message is only displayed one time per ignition cycle and will not be re-displayed when in the ignition is in the run position.

Do not attempt to resolve this issue by replacing the ECM or the radio. This condition is inherent to the 2004 and 2005 model year ECM calibrations. Please advise customers to monitor the percentage of "Oil Life Remaining" on their Oil Life Monitor to determine when the oil should be changed.
