Subject: | Service VME - Protective Door Opening Transit Tape Removal Difficulty |
Models: | . |
When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
Recent product reports relative to difficulty encountered removing the protective tape used in the drivers door opening on 2004 Buick Rendezvous and Pontiac Aztek models have resulted in a review of the material being used in the assembly plant. It was determined that the material supplier had provided a material that is inappropriate for this type of application and will be very difficult to remove. The correct material is now in the assembly plant and being used starting with VIN 4S529643.
The 3M Corporation provides some information relative to tape removal as follows:
For the areas where only adhesive is left:
Use only Isopropylic Alcohol (IPA). Apply, with a spray preferably, IPA over the adhesive, let it soak for a couple of minutes and start removing it using a cloth wet with IPA.
For the whole protective tape removal:
Use 3M Citrus Base Cleaner (CBC). Spray it over the tape and let it work for 5 minutes, using a wet cloth with CBC, remove the tape (a plastic squeegee can be used to help the operation). This will still be a time consuming and difficult operation, but will not harm the painted surfaces. After using the CBC and removing the foil tape, the surface will have an oily coat from the CBC that can be cleaned with IPA and a clean cloth.
