  1. Insert the ignition key into the J 35628-A .
  2. Turn on the J 35628-A .
  3. Read the key code that is on the display of the interrogator.

Does the J 35628-A display a key code value of 1 through 15?

Go to Step 3

  1. Write down the key code that is displayed on the J 35628-A .
  2. Turn off the J 35628-A .
  3. Connect the J 35628-A .
  4. Insert the ignition key into the ignition key lock cylinder.
  5. Turn on the J 35628-A .
  6. Turn the ignition switch to RUN and observe the display on the J 35628-A .

Does the J 35628-A display a key code that matches the key code in step 2?

  1. Verify that the ignition switch is in the LOCK position.
  2. Connect all of the connectors.
  3. Install any components that you removed.
  4. Connect a Tech 2 scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  5. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  6. Use the Tech 2 in order to clear the BCM DTCs. Refer to Clearing DTCs in Body Control System.
  7. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  8. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  9. Use a Tech 2 scan tool in order to test for current BCM DTCs. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Displaying in Body Control System.

Are there any current BCM DTCs?

  1. Clean the ignition key.
  2. Use the J 35628-A .
  3. If the key code is still invalid, replace the key. Refer to Programming Replacement Keys, Ignition Cylinder, or Powertrain Control Module .

Has the repair been made?

  1. Test for a poor connection at the ignition key lock cylinder.
  2. If the connection is not poor, replace the ignition key lock cylinder. Refer to Steering Column Lock Cylinder Set - Disassemble - Off Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
