Important: Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR). Refer to Disabling the SIR System and Enabling the SIR System in Supplemental Inflatable Restraint System.

Important: Use the J 35616-A in order to inspect or probe a terminal in a diagnostic procedure. Use of the J 35616-A ensures that following conditions exist:

   • No damage to the terminal will occur.
   • Terminal contact tension is sufficient.
Refer to Repairing Connector Terminals in Wiring Systems if terminal contact seems insufficient.

Check fuse 5 for an open.

  1. Place transaxle in the PARK position.
  2. Turn ignition switch to the RUN position.
  3. Using a test lamp, connect by backprobing between the stop lamp switch connector C2 terminal A circuit 1439 and ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Place transaxle in the PARK position.
  2. Turn ignition switch to the RUN position.
  3. Using a test lamp, connect by backprobing between the stop lamp switch connector C2 terminal B circuit 1135 and ground.
  4. Depress the brake pedal.

Does the test lamp turn OFF?

Check for poor connection or open in circuit  1439.

  1. Turn ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Disconnect the automatic transmission shift lock control actuator (BTSI) electrical connector.
  3. Turn ignition switch to the RUN position.
  4. Using a test lamp, connect between the automatic transmission shift lock control actuator (BTSI) connector terminal A circuit 1135 and ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Using a test lamp, connect between the automatic transmission shift lock control actuator (BTSI) connector terminals A circuit 1135 and B circuit 434.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Disconnect the transaxle range switch connector C1.
  2. Using a test lamp, connect between the transaxle range switch connector C1 terminal D circuit 1050 and B+.

Does the test lamp illuminate?
