in Tires and Wheels.
Caution: Failure to disconnect the intermediate shaft from the rack and pinion
steering gear stub shaft can result in damage to the steering gear or to the
intermediate shaft. This damage may cause loss of steering control, which
could result in an accident and possible personal injury.
- Remove the intermediate shaft from the steering gear stub shaft. Refer
to
Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
in Steering Wheel and
Column.
- Remove the power steering cooler line pipe brackets if necessary
for access. Refer to

- Have an assistant hold the frame while removing the body mount
bolts.
- Remove the frame with both lower control arms and the stabilizer
shaft attached.
Work the frame downward toward the rear of the vehicle.
- Remove both lower control arms and the stabilizer shaft if replacing
the frame. Refer to

(0.74 in) diameter by 203 mm (8.0 in) long pins in alignment
holes on the right side of the frame.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the new
frame bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the new frame bolts to 180 N·m (133 lb ft).
- Install the
engine mounts. Refer to
Engine Mount Bracket Replacement
in
Engine Mechanical.
- Install the transaxle mounts. Refer to
Transmission Mount Replacement
