Did you perform the Lighting System Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
  2. Turn the headlamp switch to the HEAD position.
  3. Place the headlamp dimmer switch in the low beam position.
  4. Place the headlamp dimmer switch in the high beam position.

Are the low and high beam headlamps operating properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect one of the low beam headlamps.
  2. With the headlamp switch to the HEAD position.
  3. With the headlamp dimmer switch in the low beam position.
  4. Probe the positive voltage supply circuit of the low beam headlamp connector with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 11

Check the P1 - P3 headlamp circuit breaker for an open. refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Is the P1 - P3 headlamp circuit breaker open?

Go to Step 10

  1. Install the P1 - P3 headlamp circuit breaker.
  2. Backprobe the headlamp switch signal circuit of connector C201 with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 7

  1. Disconnect the headlamp switch .
  2. Probe the battery positive voltage supply circuit of headlamp switch with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

Test for a high resistance or an open in the headlamp switch signal circuit of the headlamp dimmer switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 14

Test for a high resistance or an open in the headlamp switch signal circuit of the headlamp switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems

Repair a high resistance or an open in the battery positive voltage circuit of the headlamp switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems

Has the repair been made?

Go to Step 14

Repair a short to ground in one of the following circuits:

    • The battery positive voltage circuit.
    • The high beam or low beam headlamp positive voltage supply circuits.
    • The headlamp switch signal circuit.

Go to Step 14

Repair a high resistance or an open in the headlamp ground circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems

Replace the headlamp dimmer switch.

Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.

Replace the headlamp switch.
