J 37043 Park Brake Cable Release Tool

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the left side instrument panel insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  2. Remove the left carpet retainer. Refer to Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  3. Pull back the carpet for access.
  4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  6. Relieve the park brake cable tension at the equalizer.
  7. Disconnect the front cable from the rear cable at the connector clip.
  8. Lower the vehicle.

  10. Remove the cable retaining clip and disconnect the cable button end from the lever clevis.
  11. Use the J 37043 in order to remove the cable from the park brake pedal.
  12. Disconnect the electrical connector at the parking brake switch.

  14. Remove the three lever nuts from the body mounting studs.
  15. Remove the park brake pedal assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the park brake pedal assembly.

  2. Object Number: 179640  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the three park brake pedal to body mounting nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten park brake pedal mounting nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Connect the electrical connector at the parking brake switch.

  7. Connect the cable button end into the lever clevis and install the cable retaining clip.
  8. Position the carpet in place.
  9. Install the left carpet retainer. Refer to Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  10. Install the driver's side insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  11. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  12. Connect the front cable to the rear cable at the connector clip.

  14. Adjust the park brake. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
  15. Lower the vehicle.
