Removal Procedure
Caution: An electric fan under the hood can start up even when the engine is
not running and can injure you. Keep hands, clothing and tools away from any
underhood electric fan.
Caution: To help avoid personal injury or damage to the vehicle, a bent, cracked,
or damaged fan blade or housing should always be replaced.
- Remove the air cleaner and the duct assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls.
Important: To prevent shearing of the rubber bushing(s) loosen the bolt(s) on the
engine strut(s) before swinging the strut(s).
- Remove the LH and RH engine mount strut braces. Refer to
Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left Side
and
Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Right Side
in Engine
Mechanical -- 2.5L (LB8) and 3.0L (LW9).
- Disconnect the cooling
fan electrical connector.
- Disconnect the transmission
oil cooler lines from the retainer at the bottom of the cooling fan shroud.
- Remove the cooling fan shroud bolts.
- Remove the cooling fans.
Installation Procedure
- Install the cooling fans.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the cooling
fan shroud bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the cooling fan shroud bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).
- Install the transmission oil cooler lines to the retainer at the
bottom of the cooling fan shroud.
- Connect the cooling fan
electrical connector.
- Install the LH and RH engine mount strut braces. Refer to
Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left Side
and
Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Right Side
in Engine
Mechanical -- 2.5L (LB8) and 3.0L (LW9).
- Install the air cleaner and the duct assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls --
2.5L (LB8) and 3.0L (LW9).
- Inspect for proper operation.
